Common signs to watch for
Many vision problems show up as behavior rather than complaints. If you notice one or more of these signs regularly, it's a good idea to schedule an eye exam.
Signs at school
A child who struggles to see the board may copy notes slowly, lose their place when reading, or avoid reading altogether. Teachers sometimes notice trouble with attention or reading before parents do.
Signs at home
Watch for sitting very close to the TV, holding a tablet or book close to the face, closing one eye to read, or getting tired and frustrated quickly with homework.
What to do next
Book a comprehensive eye exam. If your child needs glasses, we'll write a prescription and explain the options. If they're nearsighted and the prescription is going up, we'll talk with you about myopia control.
Signs your child may need glasses
- Squinting or tilting the head to see
- Frequent eye rubbing
- Headaches or tired eyes after school
- Sitting close to the TV or holding devices close
- Covering one eye to read
- Losing their place while reading
